The
History Of Advertising
·
Advertising
is still the most powerful form of advertising and has been around ever since
humans started providing each other with goods and services.
· The Great
Fire of London in 1666 was a boost to this type of advertisement, as people
used newspapers in the aftermath of the fire to advertise lost & found, and
changes of address.
Advertising And The Industrial Revolutions
·
Before there
was no use of adverting because buyers and seller s were personally known to
one another.
·
People needed
to brand
their products, in order for other
people to buy it and create mass recommendations to support the mass.

the Pears' Soap
Advertising Innovation
·
An early
advertising success story is that of Pears Soap was that
Thomas Barrett married
into the famous soap making family and needed lots of people to buy it so they
can survive.
·
He took images considered as "fine art" and
used them to connote his brand's quality, purity (ie untainted by
commercialism) and simplicity (cherubic children). The campaign was a huge
success.
The First Advertising Agencies
·
Everyone was realizing a promotion for their products was hard if they were to survive.
·
A example of this is the advertising produced for Arrow
Shirts by the copy writing team of Earnest Calkins and Ralph Holden, who hired
Joseph Leyendecker to create an image for the campaign.
Advertising
and the First World War
·
Poster advertising was so common in Europe than the USA before
1914.
·
When war stopped all the governments made it look like posters turned into propaganda.
Advertising Through The
Great Depression
·
People treated themselves to costly with new goods e.g cars,
washing machines, and radiograms, and all of them needed to be advertised.
·
The public had an appetite for radio, but there was no
real way to get them to pay directly for the expensive broadcasts.
Advertising & TV
·
The 1950s brought post-war affluence and whole new glut
of material goods for which need had to be created. Not least of these was the
television set.
·
Several different advertisers could buy time within one
show, and everything would be out of control.
Madison Avenue - how the
Mad Men came to be
·
By the 1950s, advertising was considered a profession in
its own right, not just the remit of failed newspapermen or poets.
·
Also this attracted men and women which wanted to thrill
peoples mind,it became a huge competition.
How has advertising
changed with the progression of technology?
Advertising has changed the progression of
technology because before they had goods and services to sell their product and
before it was really hard to live and promote their products because then it
would be hard to survive without food and electricity. But nowadays they have televisions, phones, moving
images,billboards magazines,sponsorship by celebrities,internet viral and
lots more. And now lots of people would buy the product because there are lots
of Ads and its popular than the olden times.
